The Prius first went on sale in Japan in 1997, making it the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. Since its launch in 2009, the third-generation model has sold more than 1 million units worldwide by September 2011. In Germany, the base configuration costs 26.500 € and the top configuration costs 31.150 €. In the USA, the base configuration costs $24,000 and the top configuration costs $29,805.
